The Friends of Beaman Park have been awarded a grant to construct a 350 foot long, ADA accessible boardwalk. This boardwalk will allow park visitors with physical limitations to visit and enjoy into the woods. It is similar in design to the bridge that was built a few years back, only a whole lot bigger! The Friends of Beaman Park are looking for some volunteers to help with this project. All the tools, training, snacks and lunch will be provided. They just need folks to come and work for as little or as long as they would like.

Learn the basics of fly tying. This class will teach you to use the tools, use of materials, and designs for tying the flies frequently used in the Middle Tennessee. This class is limited to 4 students. Cost: $75.00 per student. CT provides all of the necessary tools and materials. You are welcome to bring your own tools. $15 deposit due at registration. Join Cumberland Transit for a hike into Savage Gulf. We will start at the Great Stone Door entrance, hiking past the door along the rim to Alum Gap. We'll take a lunch break there before descending the steep old logging road into the gulf, then hiking back along Big Creek to the Stone Door. Bring water, lunch and good hiking boots. Learn the basics of fly fishing gear for general uses and specific uses in the Tennessee area - rods, reels, lines, and flies. Limited to 12 participants. To register, stop by Cumberland Transit to pay a $10 deposit. This is a FREE clinic. ($10 registration fee will be refunded at class).

A Tale of Two Mountains

Presiding proudly over the route to Everest Ama Dablam is roundly held as one of the most beautiful peaks in the world. The S.W. Ridge weaves its way up through an ever changing environment of rock towers, ice humps and snow ledges, finally ending in a steep ice and snow face before terminating on a spectacular summit. It is the outlandish exposure and huge variety of topography that make climbing Ama Dablam such a tantalizing experience.

Denali, the tallest mountain in North America and one of the seven summits, is one of the world's greatest expedition challenges. It's arctic environment, extreme temperatures, and harsh storms make it a severe test of personal strength, team work and logistics. No peak in the world has greater relief as Denali rises 17,000 ft above the surrounding plain.

Join Cumberland Transit for a strenuous hike as we explore the headwaters of the Paint Rock River. The 3.5-mile trail descends steeply into the natural amphitheater, crossing many creeks and streams. Wildflowers should be starting to bloom. We will have lunch at the base of the gorge before climbing the 3.5 miles back to the cars. This is not an easy hike. Join us for a week of camping, hiking and, if you'd like, backpacking in the Crown Jewel of the National Park System. We have a base camp from which we make day trips to explore the Tuolumne Meadow, Mariposa Grove and Yosemite Valley. We have opportunities for traveling many hiking trails during the week. We walk among towering Giant Sequoias, alpine wildflowers and a variety of wildlife. We also have permits for up to 6 backpackers to hike to Half Dome.

This is a camping trip in which all guests participate in the preparation and clean-up of camp meals. We will have several meals at local eateries, including our last night's feast in the Mountain Room at Yosemite Lodge.

This moderate-to-strenuous hike takes us to the mysterious Virgin Falls, which appear out of a cliff and disappear into a sinkhole below. The 8-mile round trip hike takes us through the pocket wilderness of Tennessee’s South Cumberland region. The trail includes stream crossings and an option to visit a cave. Discover the Pacific Northwest! Your trip begins in Seattle with a leisurely drive and ferry ride to the San Juan Islands. There you will enjoy a four-day/three-night sea kayaking and camping trip. Sea kayaking gives you opportunities to observe sea life, from whales and seals to cormorants and bald eagles. Paddle among large and small islands, taking time to hike and explore on foot as well. At your camp you'll enjoy gourmet meals of salmon, wine and apple crisp dessert to go along with spectacular ocean views. (You call this roughing it?)

The second portion of your adventure takes you to Whidbey Island and the Olympic Peninsula. Your travels include exploring parks with lighthouses and WWII era defenses, hiking in the Olympic National Park, and visiting a lavender farm or two.

The final portion of your trip is a visit to Seattle, where you will dine on the waterfront and visit the famous Pike Place Market.
